HR seminars to highlight mistakes made in personnel management issues

ASHLAND, Ky. (Feb. 24, 2016) — Ashland Community and Technical College will be hosting a series of workshops to help human resource department directors, managers and supervisors navigate the waters of HR rules and regulations.

Workforce_HR_LawSeries_Ad_Independent_Color_Web-1The seminars, presented by Leigh Gross Latherow, an employment law attorney and partner at VanAntwerp Attorneys in Ashland, will focus on the top 10 mistakes made in different personnel management issues.

Participants will learn to avoid legal pitfalls that could lead to lawsuits and will be able to ask questions specific to their companies or organizations.

Each workshop will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Roberts Drive Campus.

Workshops:

  • Top 10 Hiring and Firing Mistakes — March 3, will include background checks, medical and drug testing, and defending unemployment and retaliation claims.
  • Top 10 ADA Mistakes — May 26, will help participate navigate the Americans with Disabilities Act. Topics include drug addictions, accommodation requests, the interaction between the ADA and workers compensation, insufficient job descriptions and setting precedents
  • Top 10 Wage and Hour Mistakes — Sept. 15, includes improper worker classifications, sick leave payout at termination, break time obligations, hiring documentation, overtime calculation, and salary employee discipline.
  • Top 10 Questions to Legal Counsel by HR Personnel —Nov. 10, will cover grounds for disciplining or firing workers.
