IdeaFestival coming to EKU arts center in April

Free youth day on April 21

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 25, 2016) — IdeaFestival is scheduled from April 21-22 at the Eastern Kentucky University Center for the Arts.

The keynote addresses will be given by Jad Abumrad of NPR’s “Radiolab” and author Rich DeMillo, noted for his work on the transformation in higher education.

IdeaFestival Youth Day, scheduled for April 21, is free to middle and high schools students of the region, and includes “IF Career Maker Faire,” featuring hands on exhibits and demonstrations from colleges, universities, businesses and industries. It will also focus on college and career choices and STEM (science, technology, engineering math) discipline.

Other featured speakers on April 22:

  • Dr. Roman Yampolskiy, director of the Cybersecurity Laboratory at the University of Louisville “Future with Artificial Superintelligence”
  • An Earth Day duo of speakers: Aidan Connolly, chief innovation officer at Alltech, on the future of agriculture and agri-science; and nationally renowned chef and local foods expert Ouita Michel, owner of Holly Hill Inn, Smithtown Seafood and other Central Kentucky restaurants
  • Kris Kimel, president and founder of the Kentucky Science and Technology Corp. and Space Tango, and the original founder of IdeaFestival, with his presentation “Next Gen: Space.”
  • Other presenters and performers, and a final agenda, will be announced soon.
