National magazine recognizes Louisville, Frankfort for job creation

11 other Kentucky cities ranked on Top Micropolitans of 2015 list

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 8, 2016) — Site Selection Magazine has ranked Louisville No. 7 on its list of the Top Metropolitans of 2015 and Frankfort as No. 7 on its list of Top Micropolitans of 2015 for job creation.

Frankfort was one of 12 Kentucky cities that made the Top Micropolitans of 2015 list. Danville and Somerset tied for 10th, Bardstown was 13th, London 22nd, Madisonville and Paducah tied for 39th and Campbellsville, Glasgow, Maysville, Mayfield and Mount Sterling tied for 73rd.

“Site Selection’s ranking further recognizes Louisville’s mission to add jobs and produce results,” Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said. “While there still is room to improve, local, regional, national and international companies are truly recognizing that Louisville is a place to do business and to bring their employees.”

In 2015, Louisville secured 62 business development projects, which signified more than 5,400 new jobs and $1.9 billion in investment.

Significant projects announced in Louisville last year included:

  • Ford Motor Company, plans to invest $1.3 billion and add 2,000 jobs
  • Groupo Antolin Primera Automotive, plans to invest $13.7 million and 200 jobs
  • GE, plans to invest $100 million and add 250 jobs
  • Capture LLC, plans to invest $560,000 and add 180 jobs
  • Koch Filter Corporation, plans to invest $7.1 million and add 160 jobs

The strong local growth was part of a record year for the state as Site Selection also awarded back-to-back top honors to Kentucky as the top state for new and expanded industry activity.
