FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 23, 2016) — The Kentucky House of Representatives approved a two-year, $4.5 billion spending plan on 1,239 total projects for Kentucky’s roads and bridges with a vote on the House floor Tuesday evening.
Major projects in House Bill 305, the two-year road plan, include continuing the expansion of the Mountain Parkway in eastern Kentucky—which takes up the largest share of money in the plan and is a top priority of House Speaker Greg Stumbo and funding for projects on the many of the state’s largest interstates.
In debate over the version of the state road fund presented by House Democrats, some Republicans argued that many important projects in their regions were not funded or ignored in this plan.
The House also passed House Bill 304, legislation to provide funding for administration of the state Transportation Cabinet and other transportation needs across Kentucky.
Both transportation bills now head to the Senate for the Republican majority to craft their version of a two-year road plan before the two chambers end up in conference committee in the final days of session to come to an agreement on project funding.
