Morehead State advances to CBI championship

Will host Nevada on Monday in first game of best of three series

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 24, 2016) — The Morehead State University basketball team beat Ohio 77-72 Wednesday night in the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational to advance to next week’s championship series.

PrintMorehead (22-13) hosts Nevada (22-12) at 8:30 p.m. on Monday in the best of three series.

The second game will be Wednesday at Nevada, and a third game, if necessary, will be played on April 1 at Nevada.

In earning the win Wednesday at Ohio, the Eagles become just the sixth team in CBI tournament history to win two road games in the same season. Morehead State, which won its first round game at Siena, joins UTEP (2009), VCU (2010), Washington State (2012), Santa Clara (2013, 3 road wins), and Fresno State (2014) in accomplishing that feat.

The three wins in the CBI are the most postseason wins ever by Morehead State. In both 1956 and 1961, the Eagles won two games – an NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round game and then a regional third-place game.

Nevada (22-12) advanced to the finals by beating Vermont 86-72 on Wednesday.
