1,100 seedlings will be planted in Muhlenberg County for Arbor Day

Seedling to be planted Saturday on reclaimed mine land

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 24, 2016)The Department for Natural Resources’ Division of Abandoned Mine Lands announced today an Arbor Day event Scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 2016. Tree seedlings will be planted on a portion of the 40-acre Andrew’s Run Reclamation Project near Paradise, Ky.

The Muhlenberg County 4-H as well as Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will be planting trees as part of the Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative (ARRI). The tree planters are scheduled to meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Paradise Café at the intersection of U.S. 431 and 176 in Drakesboro, Ky. The federal Office of Surface Mining and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources are assisting in the reclamation effort.

AML is authorized under Kentucky law (KRS.350) to abate hazards to public health, safety, and the environment from abandoned mine lands.
