Funds awarded for research
FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 19, 2016) — The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) announced today awardees for its spring 2016 Scholar Research Fellowship Program grant cycle. Each new KHS research fellow will receive monetary support to conduct research for one to four weeks at the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort.
Spring 2016 awardees and their research topics are:
- Charlene Fletcher-Brown, Indiana University, “Confined Femininity: Race, Gender and Incarceration in Kentucky, 1865-1940”
- Katherine Brackett Fialka, University of Georgia, “Textual Healing: Female Readers, Self-Writing and Sensibility in the American South, 1840-1920”
- Lauren N. Haumesser, University of Virginia, “Party of Patriarchy: Democratic Gender Roles and the Coming of the Civil War”
- Dale Potts, South Dakota State University, “‘To Keep all Their Topsoil from Washing Away’: Writer Jesse Stuart and the Maintenance of the Twentieth-Century Rural Landscape of Kentucky
- Stefano Tijerina,University of Maine, Kentucky Sons: Joseph C.S. Blackburn, Maurice H. Thatcher and the Management of the Isthmian Canal Commission, 1907-1913
The KHS Scholarly Research Fellowship Program encourages and promotes advanced research on all aspects of Kentucky-related local, regional, national, transnational and comparative history using KHS collections.
