Kentucky American Water to Purchase Ridgewood-Area Wastewater System in Franklin County

Lexington, Ky., (June 2, 2016) – Kentucky American Water has signed an agreement indicating the intent to
purchase the wastewater assets of Classic Construction, Inc., that serve Franklin County’s Ridgewood
subdivision and areas adjacent to the neighborhood, and to assume providing wastewater services to that
community once the transaction is completed later this year, pending approval by the Kentucky Public Service
Commission.

The Ridgewood-area wastewater system currently provides service to 107 customers and serves a population of approximately 150. It is located approximately 40 miles south of Kentucky American Water’s Northern District
office in Owenton, Ky.

“Kentucky American Water is pleased that Classic Construction has entrusted us to provide wastewater services to
the Ridgewood-area residents in Franklin County,” said Nick Rowe, president of Kentucky American Water and
senior vice president for American Water’s Central Division. “Through this transaction, these customers will
benefit from our company’s unique operational and engineering expertise as well as the economies of scale that
come with being part of a large system of water and wastewater operations. They will also benefit from our
commitment to ongoing, necessary capital investment to ensure quality, reliable wastewater services now and in the future. We appreciate the opportunity to serve these Franklin County residents.”

“We have been pleased to provide wastewater services to this area of Franklin County and are confident that the wastewater system will be in excellent hands under Kentucky American Water ownership and operation,” said
Russell Givens, president and owner of Classic Construction. “Kentucky American Water has a reputation for
providing excellent customer service, and we would want nothing less for the customers we have served in the
Ridgewood area. We believe this is a great step forward for all involved.”
