Four groups readmitted
FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 13, 2016) — Louisville-based band Small Time Napoleon began performing more than two years ago. The band plays mostly in Louisville, but hopes to expand its audience beyond the River City.
That may be a little easier now that the jazz, rock and pop quartet has been adjudicated into the Kentucky Arts Council’s Performing Artists Directory.
The directory is a select roster of Kentucky performing artists used by in-state and out-of-state presenters and others as a resource for identifying artists for performance bookings and projects. It includes professional individual artists, companies or groups in dance, theater, music and storytelling who have an established performance history.
“Being juried into the directory gives a level of validation for the band,” said Jeff Thomas, guitarist and singer for the group. “We’ve had a few friends who have been juried in (members of the group Appalatin) and they spoke highly of it. They mentioned the perks, including increasing volume of gig opportunities.”
Other members of the group include guitarist and singer Dan Hardin, bassist Dave Neill and drummer Ryan Fowler.
Small Time Napoleon was the only new group added to the directory. Four other groups or individuals were readmitted to the directory, including Americana musician Dale Pyatt of Richmond, The Louisville Leopard Percussionists, gypsy jazz group Stirfry Musette of Frankfort and roots music duet Heath & Molly of Rumsey.
In addition to booking and performance opportunities, participation in the directory gives performers access to training in business and marketing and other professional development tools.
