Energy and Environment Cabinet makes two appointments

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 28, 2016) — The Energy and Environment Cabinet has made two appointments, Secretary Charles G. Snavely announced today. R. Bruce Scott, currently the commissioner of the Department for Environmental Protection, has been appointed as the deputy secretary of the EEC Cabinet. Aaron Keatley, currently deputy commissioner of the Department for Environment Protection, has been appointed as DEP Commissioner. Both appointments take effect immediately.

Scott has served the commonwealth for 33 years in the Department for Environmental Protection. He began at the DEP in 1983 as an environmental engineer in the Division of Water. During his DEP career, Scott was manager of the Kentucky Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (KPDES) branch from 1994 to 2004 and director of the Division of Waste Management (DWM) from 2004 to 2008. He has served as commissioner of the Department for Environmental Protection (DEP) since January 2008.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Kentucky and is a registered professional engineer.

Keatley is also a career employee of the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection, serving the commonwealth since 1993. Keatley graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology and has also earned a Masters of Public Administration degree from the University of Kentucky.

Keatley has been the acting director of the DEP Division of Enforcement, as well as the director of the Division of Compliance Assistance where he established the agency’s first one-stop compliance assistance program and Kentucky’s environmental leadership program, KY EXCEL. He was appointed deputy commissioner of the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection in 2011.
