LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 18, 2016) — Kentucky American Water has announced that James “Jimmy” Keeton, III, has joined the company as director of government affairs. Keeton will report to Nick Rowe, president of Kentucky American Water and senior vice president of American Water’s Central Division.
In his new role, Keeton will lead the company’s government affairs and business development activities in Kentucky, maintaining strong relationships with government officials throughout the state, tracking and engaging in discussions about legislation impacting the water and wastewater industries, and identifying business growth opportunities.
A native of Ashland, Ky., Keeton brings nearly 10 years of legislative affairs experience and nearly 30 years of utility experience to his new role. Before joining Kentucky American Water, he was employed for 29 years by Kentucky Power Company, where he held positions in customer service, business operations support, and most recently, government affairs. Keeton and his wife, Candy, reside in Lexington.
“We are pleased to welcome Jimmy to the Kentucky American Water team and look forward to the contributions he will make for our business and industry,” said Rowe. “Jimmy has been a knowledgeable, respected resource on energy issues for legislators and other government officials for nearly a decade, and we look forward to him holding that same position going forward for water and wastewater issues.”
Susan Lancho, external affairs manager, will continue to oversee the company’s communications, community relations, media relations and corporate giving activities, and serve as a resource and contact for local government officials. She will continue to report to Rowe.
“We’ve appreciated Susan’s efforts to cover a portion of our government affairs activities the last few years,” Rowe added. “She and Jimmy will work closely together as well as with other members of the senior management team to ensure a comprehensive, responsive, external/government affairs function.”
