Fritz Winter building new foundry in Franklin, Ky.

German-based automotive parts manufacturer Fritz Winter is building a new foundry and mechanical machining facility in Franklin, Ky.

The 306,878 s.f. facility, which is being designed and built by Gray Construction, will produce more than 60,000 metric tons of ferrous parts per year. Production at the new facility is expected to begin in the summer of 2017.

Fritz Winter is one of the leading companies in the production of cast iron engine blocks and heads, brake rotors and drums, flywheels and hydraulic castings. For 65 years, the family-owned enterprise has been developing and producing rough and finish part components, as well as complex system components for customers worldwide.

The new facility will manufacture disc brake rotors for leading automakers in the Southeast and Midwest.

Phase 1 will create more than 200 jobs and represents an investment of more than $100 million.

Fritz Winter joins 64 other German-owned facilities in Kentucky, employing more than 10,500 full-time workers within the state.
