Presentation Academy principal Barbara Wine to receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Six women leaders will also receive awards

image001LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 27, 2016) – Anyone who has an affiliation with Presentation Academy in the past 34 years knows the name Barbara Wine. The ’67 Presentation graduate began her career at the academy in 1982 when she was hired as a full-time math teacher, and now she is celebrating her 13th year as school principal. She will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 at the 2016 Tower Awards, an annual event presented by Presentation Academy.

The event honors women leaders and highlights their contributions to the school’s students and the local community.

Wine graduated with honors from Spalding University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and later completed a Master’s Degree in Education at the University of Louisville. As a highly recognized former student athlete motivated by competition, Wine immersed herself in Presentation athletics. During her 17-year tenure as head volleyball coach, her teams made 11 appearances in the state volleyball tournament. She was named principal in 2004, a position she still holds. Her leadership has made a lasting impact on thousands of students, and her personal approach, contagious laugh, and genuine pride for the school makes her an institution. Just like the tower, Wine is a true icon.

“I am one of the few boys that was fortunate enough to have Mrs. Wine as a teacher, she was my 8th grade math teacher at St. Agnes,” says Presentation parent Steve D. Hiland Jr. “I am so happy and honored that my girls, currently a freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior, are in her caring and capable hands now. Congratulations Mrs. Wine, it’s an award that’s well deserved.”
