Gov. Bevin creates Kentucky Claims Commission, appoints three members

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 5, 2016) — Gov. Matt Bevin today used an executive order to create the Kentucky Claims Commission, appointing three members to the commission. The commission will oversee crime victims compensation claims, tax appeals and negligence claims against the state.

The commission replaces the Kentucky Board of Claims, Board of Tax Appeals and the Crime Victims Compensation Board. The commission will be reviewed by the General Assembly during its 2017 session.

New commissioners are:

  • Carlo Wessels, Villa Hills, whose term expires Sept. 30, 2017
  • Jessica Burke, Stearns, whose term expires Sept. 30, 2018
  • Marcus S. Carey, Sparta, whose term expires Sept. 30, 2019. Carey is also appointed to serve as chairperson
