Midway announces addition of 3 sports

MIDWAY, Ky. — Following approval by the Executive Committee of its Board of Trustees, Midway University has announced that it will add three new sports to its athletics program for the 2017-18 academic year. The offerings include men’s tennis, men’s cross country and coed cheerleading.

“Athletics has always been an integral part of our undergraduate experience. Midway provides a great place for student-athletes to both further their education and compete at the university level,” said Dr. John Marsden, President, Midway University. “Thanks in part to the addition of male and coed sports this year, we’ve enjoyed a record undergraduate class of incoming students. I’m confident that the trend will continue as we establish these new programs.”

The move comes on the heels of the institution’s decision to add six teams ahead of the 2016-17 season and will bring the total number of sports offered to 17.

“With so much growth in the last several months, it’s an exciting time to be a Midway Eagle,” said Athletics Director Rusty Kennedy. “We have a department full of talented coaches and student-athletes who are working hard to build something special every day and I’m looking forward to having new teams join us on the journey. The decision to add these new sports so early into this academic year is so our coaches and admissions staff have ample time to work to recruit for the upcoming year.”

Recruiting for all three sports will begin immediately. Interested student-athletes should visit www.GoMidwayEagles.com and fill out a recruitment form to connect with coaches.
