Pikeville Medical Center’s employee total hits 3,000

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Pikeville Medical Center’s rapid growth has led to the hiring of the organization’s 3,000 employee. This important milestone was reached on Monday when Judy Lawson joined PMC as an information systems project manager.

“I am shocked and happy to be the three-thousandth employee,” Lawson said. “To have this many employees speaks volumes about PMC.  I am absolutely thrilled and proud to be a part of the premier healthcare system in the region. Everyone wants to be employed at PMC because it has a reputation for doing everything first class.”

PMC, the region’s largest employer, has added 930 jobs since Jan. 1, 2016. This dramatic increase has created a positive impact on the local economy of over $48 million.

“With coal jobs disappearing at an alarming rate, our region depends on PMC to contribute to our local economy,” said Chief Operating Officer Juanita Deskins.

PMC’s job growth is a direct result of patients coming to the hospital in record numbers. PMC, a 300-bed facility and Kentucky’s only level II trauma center, is a regional referral center offering all major medical specialties and many subspecialties.

With nearly 400 credentialed healthcare providers on staff – this includes physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and certified registered nurse anesthetists – a strong focus remains on physician recruitment efforts. Sixty physicians have joined PMC in 2016 alone and the hospital is seeking to fill approximately 50 additional physician vacancies in over 20 medical specialties.

PMC’s service area has expanded along with the hospital.

“We are seeing patients come from further distances than ever before,” said President/CEO Walter E. May. “People in our region recognize that PMC is providing quality healthcare closer to home. We will continue increasing our number of employees to meet the demand for our services. ”
