State high school soccer tournaments kick off Tuesday

16 teams vying for titles

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 24, 2016) — The Kentucky High School Athletic Association state soccer tournaments begin on Tuesday. Sixteen teams have advanced to each tournament.

Both defending champions are back in this year’s tournament. Covington Catholic beat Henry Clay 3-0 in last year’s boys title game, while Sacred Heart won the girls championship, beating Lexington Catholic 1-0.

Girls state tournament:

  • Russell vs. Corbin
  • Notre Dame vs. West Jessamine
  • Greenwood vs. Graves County
  • Perry County Central vs. Lawrence County
  • George Rogers Clark vs. Lexington Catholic
  • Bethlehem vs. Simon Kenton
  • Henderson County vs. Owensboro Catholic
  • Mercy vs. Sacred Heart

Boys state tournament:

  • Louisville Collegiate vs. Butler
  • South Laurel vs. East Carter
  • Mercer County vs. Covington Catholic
  • Hopkinsville vs. Daviess County
  • South Warren vs. McCracken County
  • North Oldham vs. North Hardin
  • Campbell County vs. Paul Laurence Dunbar
  • Johnson Central vs. Perry County Central
