Wildcats receive 2 first-place votes
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 31, 2016) — The University of Kentucky men’s basketball team is No. 2 in the Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll released today.
UK, which received two first-place votes, finished with 1,479 total votes. Duke is No. 1 with 58 first-place votes and 1,612 overall. Kansas, which didn’t receive any first-place votes is third, followed by defending champion Villanova (four first-place votes) and Oregon (one first-place vote). Louisville is ranked No. 13.
UK was ranked No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches Poll that was released last week and Louisville was No. 14. Duke is No. 1 in that poll.
UK opens the season at 7 p.m. at home on Nov. 11 against Stephen F. Austin. Louisville opens the season at 4 p.m. at home on Nov. 11 against Evansville. UK and UofL meet on Dec. 21 in Louisville.
