WKU names associate provost for Research and Creative Activity

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Nov. 7, 2016) — Cheryl Davis has been named Associate Provost for Research and Creative Activity at Western Kentucky University.

Davis has been a member of the Biology Department since 1991. She was named a University Distinguished Professor, WKU’s highest faculty honor, in 2008. A recipient of the Ogden College Faculty Award in Teaching, Dr. Davis has stressed student involvement in research throughout her career, serving as an advisor for some 30 graduate students. She and her students have given more than 50 research presentations over the last decade. For the past 15 years, she has served as WKU’s Lead Faculty Representative to the Kentucky Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (KBRIN).

The Associate Provost oversees the Office of Research and Creative Activity (ORCA) and is charged with expanding the opportunities for research and creative activity for faculty, staff and students across the campus.  In this role, Dr. Davis will be working to expand grant support for scholarship and to assist faculty in commercializing their ideas and supporting economic development.

She had been serving as Interim Associate Provost.
