Hopkins County High School students asked to pitch ideas for a business

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (Dec. 5, 2017) – Innovate Hopkins County, the Entrepreneurial Division of the Madisonville Hopkins County Economic Development Corp. announced today plans to launch an Idea Competition for high school students to be held on March 10, 2017. Hopkins County students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate in the Idea Pitch competition. Each team or individual will pitch their idea for a business. We are very excited to bring students together and introduce them to the wider entrepreneurial ecosystem.

This latest initiative is a complement to the existing Entrepreneurial Development Program and another way for the Madisonville Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation to engage more students within the established entrepreneurial community across Hopkins County.

Each applicant or team (up to 5) will fill out an application and answer seven questions in the form of a 1,000-word essay. Application and essay are due by 4 p.m. Dec. 20. Applications must be turned into the Madisonville Hopkins County Economic Development Corp. at 755 Industrial Road, Madisonville, Ky. 42431 or emailed to Ruthann Padgett at [email protected]. The applications will then be reviewed and the top ten will be selected to pitch their Idea on March 10, 2017.

Each team or applicant that is chosen for the final ten will be notified by Jan. 15, 2017. Chosen applicants in the final ten will have five minutes to pitch their idea to a panel of judges, followed by Q&A from the judges. A PowerPoint Presentation of no more than 15 slides is required for the presentation. No more than $50 can be spent on props or prototype for demonstration purposes for this project. First place prize will be $1,000; second place prize is $500; third place is $200. If on a team all money will be divided equally.

The Idea Competition will be held 8 a.m.-2 p.m. March 10, 2017 at the Hopkins County Career Technology Center, 1775 Patriot Drive Madisonville, Ky.
