Kentucky’s population grew 0.27% in 2015; added 12,000 residents

Utah fastest growing state

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 21, 2016) — Kentucky’s population grew about 0.27 percent in 2015, adding 12,000 residents for a state total of 4,436,974, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Kentucky’s population grew by 300,000 from 2000-2010.

California has the nation’s largest population (39,250,017), Texas had the biggest growth in 2015 (432,957) and Utah (2.03 percent) had the biggest percentage growth. Illinois lost the most population in 2015, losing 37,508 residents. Only eight states lost population.

Nationally, the U.S. population grew by 0.7 percent to 323.1 million. The population of voting-age residents, adults age 18 and over, grew to 249.5 million, making up 77.2 percent of the population in 2016, an increase of 0.9 percent from 2015 (247.3 million).
