Construction worker dies at UK Student Center site

Worked for Lexington company

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 13, 2017) — Michael Perschitti, a 47-year-old construction worker from West Virginia, died today of multiple blunt force trauma following an accident on the construction site of the University of Kentucky Student Center on Avenue of Champions.

The construction worker was employed by Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal of Lexington.

Work ceased at the time of the accident on the construction project and the UK Police Department has been on site investigating since that time.

UK Police Chief Joe Monroe said in a statement: “Shortly after 11 a.m. this morning University of Kentucky Police were notified that an accident had occurred at the UK Student Center construction site located on Avenue of Champions. UK Police along with Lexington Fire Department responded to the location and found an unresponsive male that appeared to have fallen. The individual was immediately transported to UK’s Chandler Hospital and was later pronounced deceased.

“UK Police currently has an open investigation into the incident that appears to have been an accident. We are conducting interviews of individuals who were on the roof with the worker in addition to working with the Fayette County Coroner’s Office,” he said.
