First academy in Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 19, 2017) — Walmart this week opened its first training academy in Kentucky. The academy, located in the Walmart Supercenter at 2350 Grey Lag Way, will allow hourly supervisors and department managers to receive two weeks of hands-on training in the classroom and sales floor. Walmart, which has 47 academies in the U.S., plans to open 200 by the end of the year.

Walmart’s training program, called Pathways, consists of:

  • Retail fundamentals and gaining core retail skills
  • Training on the sales floor
  • Leadership, merchandising, operations, technology, customer service and department-specific training.

Each academy has its own team of approximately 14 associates with retail operations experience to lead the training. All academy stores go through a rigorous auditing process to make sure they are able to deliver the teaching, training and development that associates should receive at the academy.
