Land use advocacy group The Fayette Alliance named UK Executive Vice President for Health Affairs Dr. Michael Karpf to its board of directors. In addition, founding board member Dr. Jack van Nagell announced his retirement after years of service to the organization.
“It’s a bittersweet moment with Dr. van Nagell’s departure, but we are elated to welcome Dr. Karpf to the board,” said Fayette Alliance Chairperson Don Robinson. “We have been greatly served by Jack since our founding, and now Mike has graciously agreed to join us and bring his expertise and vision to our important mission of growing our city and promoting our farms.”
Dr. Karpf was responsible for the transformation of UK HealthCare into the medical and economic engine that serves not only the commonwealth, but multiple states in the region. Under his leadership, UK HealthCare has enjoyed unprecedented growth in services, operational budgets and has helped attract hundreds of high paying jobs to Lexington.
“This is a special place and being able to impact its future remains important to me,” stated Dr. Karpf. “And Fayette Alliance is an organization that has done a great job of balancing our economic, housing and agricultural issues. Joining their efforts will allow me to continue to contribute in a meaningful way to Lexington’s success.”
Fayette Alliance is a coalition of citizens dedicated to achieving sustainable growth in Lexington Fayette County through land use advocacy, education and promotion. Since its founding, the organization has worked closely with local government to usher over 108 major land use policies into law that further sustainable growth.
Fayette Alliance Executive Director Susan Speckert thanked Dr. van Nagell and welcomed Dr. Karpf.
“This is a crucial time in Lexington’s history, and we appreciate Dr. van Nagell’s dedication and contributions over the years as well as look forward to having Dr. Karpf’s amazing leadership, passion and vision for our city,” Speckert said.
