Financial reporting transparency comes to Kenton County

COVINGTON, Ky. (March 15, 2017) – Kenton County residents will now be able to navigate the County budget through a platform known as OpenGov. The OpenGov platform transforms complex financial data into an interactive, digital format that enables better analysis and understanding of the County’s finances. The platform may be accessed at www.KentonCountyKY.opengov.com/transparency.

“OpenGov is in line with our continued efforts to be transparent with our community,” said Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann.  “It gives residents the tools to understand how the County allocates public money without having to be an expert in finances.”

The OpenGov platform displays five years of government spending and revenue detail in a user-friendly portal. Users can view historical revenue and expenditure trends over time and explore multiple views of financial data, including by fund, department, expense, or revenue type. Over 1,000 leading cities, counties, state agencies, school systems, and special districts across the country leverage OpenGov technology, including several cities in Kenton County.

Beyond sharing information with the public, Kenton County can also use OpenGov internally to create custom reports, manage operations to budget, and keep administrators informed. The information available to the administrators is the same information available to the public.

Kenton County has also created a user guide on their website to help citizens navigate the new platform. The Financial Reporting Transparency OpenGov tab can be found at http://kentoncounty.org/financial_transparency_portal/index.php.

Kenton County Fiscal Court encourages citizens to utilize this new digital information platform to view County finances. Data in the Kenton County OpenGov system will be updated twice monthly shortly following each Fiscal Court meeting.
