Louisville opens 1-0 series lead against UK in super regional

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 9, 2017) — The University of Louisville baseball team beat the University of Kentucky 5-2 today in the opening game of the best-of-three super regional in Louisville. The teams play against at noon Saturday. The winner of the series advances to the College World Series.

The Cardinals opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning, then took a 5-0 lead on a 3-run home run by Drew Ellis in the fifth inning.

UofL held UK scoreless until the ninth inning when the Wildcats scored a pair of runs.

Kade McClure (8-3) earned the win, pitching 5.1 scoreless innings. Adam Wolf pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief.

Saturday’s game will be on ESPN.
