Louisville airport executive director receives award for exemplary career

Charles T. “Skip” Miller, A.A.E., Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority, has received the American Association of Airport Executives’ (AAAE) Distinguished Service Award, which is presented to airport executives in honor of an exemplary career and contributions to the airport industry.

“Skip is an invaluable colleague who has tirelessly served the nation’s aviation community in a number of important roles, including widely-respected airport director and active AAAE member,” said AAAE Chair Scott Brockman, A.A.E., President and CEO of Memphis International Airport. “In addition to nearly four decades in the aviation industry, Skip has been so passionate about airports that he has undertaken many volunteer positions that have resulted in invaluable improvements throughout our industry.”

The Distinguished Service Award is one of AAAE’s highest levels of recognition. Men and women receive the award as a mark of accomplishments in their professional and personal lives. Respected leaders of their own communities, these men and women also contribute to other aviation organizations, serve AAAE and its chapters and participate in civic and community affairs. Distinguished Service Award winners exemplify the best in airport management by continually bringing credit to the profession and the aviation community. All DSA winners are Accredited Airport Executives (A.A.E.) and exemplify the standards accreditation seeks to inspire. Miller received the award on Wednesday at the Airport Authority’s monthly Board meeting.

Miller has been active in many aspects of AAAE over the years, including serving on the Board of Directors and as President of the Great Lakes Chapter. In addition, Miller is Chairperson of the Great Lakes Chapter Nominating Committee and served two years as Chairman of the Great Lakes Chapter Environmental Symposium. During his distinguished career, Miller has been honored with numerous awards, including being named Airport Manager of the Year by the Kentucky Aviation Association in 2013 and Person of the Year by the Aviation Association of Indiana in 2001. Miller is also an active leader in a number of community organizations, including service on the Board of Directors for Greater Louisville Inc. and as Chairman for Kentuckians for Better Transportation.

Since 2003, Miller has served as Executive Director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. Prior to that, he was Executive Director of Airports for the Ft. Wayne/Allen County Airport Authority. He has also served in positions for Town Air Freight Company, Michiana Regional Airport and Greater Pittsburgh International Airport.
