Thirteen nurses awarded scholarships in the Lexington area
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 23, 2017) – The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health, has awarded 13 scholarships to nurses in the Lexington area, totaling $17,000. The funding from the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation helps provide KentuckyOne Health nurses with scholarship opportunities and the ability to help pay off student loans.
Patients and families often rely on nurses to assist them physically and mentally during the healing process. Scholarship incentives help ensure nurses have the tools and training to make a difference in the lives of patients.
A reception was held on July 18, 2017 to honor local nurses selected for a scholarship.
“Nurses are extremely important to our hospitals, patients and community, and this is a way we can give back to them as they are paying off debt, also providing them with help as they are furthering their education,” said Leslie Buddeke Smart, CFRE, division vice president of development, KentuckyOne Health. “We plan to continue offering these opportunities annually as we continue to hire more nurses for our hospitals.”
The 2017 Nurse Leadership Scholarship recipients include Tiffany Banks, Dianna Madden and Regina Masters.
The 2017 Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship recipients include Wendy Baker, Rebeka Caudill, Reuben Donkor, Amy Downey, Kimberly Maxey, Connie Melson, Amanda Owens, Richard Post, Julia Terry and Patrick Thompson.
“Growing up in an academically and resource challenged third-world country wasn’t easy, but I remained motivated to pull through and make something of myself,” said Reuben Donkor. “Now living in the United States, my challenge hasn’t been academics, but rather the cost of education. This scholarship will play an important role in allowing me to fulfill my dream career. I cannot thank the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation enough for its generosity.”
