DANVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 4, 2017) – A new Human Rights Campaign scholarship contest sponsored by AT&T and focused on LGBTQ+ advocacy projects on college campuses attracted the interest of Centre College senior Griffin Mason, who was recently announced as one of 15 semi-finalists from across the nation.

Mason, a computer science major from Lexington, Kentucky, will compete for one of three scholarships, with winners receiving semester-long project mentorship from HRC, a $2,500 grant to execute their proposal, a $10,000 scholarship, new mobile devices and a trip to Washington, D.C. for a national HRC dinner in October.

Each semi-finalist was selected on the basis of a project proposal submitted in the form of a video. The public can vote online for their favorite projects, once every 24 hours, and voting runs through Oct. 11. HRC will select three winners from among the top six voter getters.

“My project idea is to have a LGBTQ+ leadership conference for students around the state of Kentucky,” says Mason. He hopes to create stronger networks of support by involving students from each of Kentucky’s 120 counties and inviting speakers from across the commonwealth.

Winners will be announced on Oct. 19, which is LGBT Spirit Day, for projects that would occur during the spring 2018 semester.
