Denver, Co. (Oct. 8, 2017) – The Great American Beer Festival awarded Mile Wide Beer Company a bronze medal in the Sweet Stout or Cream Stout category for McPoyle, making MWBC the only GABF award winner in the state of Kentucky and the state’s first award winner since 2015.

The 2017 Great American Beer Festival competition awarded 293 medals to some of the best commercial breweries in the United States. Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest commercial beer competition in the world, and the premier symbol of brewing excellence.

In a ceremony at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, award-winning breweries received prestigious gold, silver and bronze medals in 98 beer categories covering 161 different beer styles, establishing the best examples of each style in the country. Winners were chosen out of 7,923 competition entries from 2,217 breweries in 50 states plus Washington, D.C.

After opening in December, 2016, this was MWBC’s first submission into the competition. “We’re thrilled to bring this prestigious award home to the state of Kentucky, and we look forward to continuing our journey in providing quality craft beer throughout the state,” said Head Brewer and Co-Founder, Kyle Tavares.

Tavares said that after two years of preparation to open MWBC and test beer recipes, this award validates their hard work. “Our goal has always been to brew great beer. This kind of recognition from the Brewer’s Association only fuels our fire to continue producing some of the best beer not just in the state of Kentucky, but in the United States.”

McPoyle is currently on tap at Mile Wide’s taproom.

Mile Wide Beer Company is a Louisville, Ky. owned and operated craft brewery. Established in late 2016, the Mile Wide Brewery & Taproom is located at 636 Barret Avenue.
