HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (Oct. 31, 2017) – In an effort to meet students’ needs at every stage of life, Northern Kentucky University will offer an accelerated online Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, as well as an accelerated online Master of Business Administration (MBA). The two programs will be available beginning January 2018, with 13 additional programs coming online in March.

According to 2017 Gray Associates Program Evaluation System, the RN to BSN degree is Kentucky’s second-most in-demand online bachelor’s degree. Nationally, nearly 98 percent of nurse employers strongly prefer to hire a BSN, with almost 50 percent requiring the degree. The Institute of Medicine (U.S. National Academies) encourages nurses with an associate’s degree to earn a BSN within five years of graduation, citing evidence that a higher percentage of BSNs improves patient outcomes.

Accelerated online degrees offer solutions for working adults with personal and professional commitments who need to adapt to changing workforce needs. The program reflects NKU’s commitment to providing students with flexible, accelerated course options for career advancement.

“As the global workforce continues to evolve, we can no longer expect that the knowledge gained through one degree will last through an entire career,” said Provost Sue Ott Rowlands, Northern Kentucky University. “Online learning provides a means for our regional workforce to continue to gain knowledge while remaining employed.”

In March, 2018, the university will launch additional degree options with a variety of bachelor’s and master’s degrees, including: B.S. in Business Administration with focuses in General Business, Global Supply Chain Management, Management and Marketing; B.S. or M.S. in Health Science; M.S. in Health Informatics; a Post Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice; and undergraduate B.A.s focusing on Criminal Justice, Psychological Science, Library Informatics, Sociology and Integrative Studies.
