COVINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 4, 2017) — Tom West has been named the new economic development director for the City of Covington.
West is familiar with Covington, having previously served as the executive director of the Covington Business Council, and as the executive director of the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board.
West’s hiring comes at an exciting time for the City of Covington, and has generated lots of enthusiasm from the economic development community.
“Our experience with Tom has been quite positive in his diverse roles in economic development from the Covington Business Council, to the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board, the Kentucky Association of Economic Development and Thomas P. Miller & Associates,” stated Dan Tobergte, president /CEO, Northern Kentucky Tri-ED. “We’re excited about collaboration with Tom and the City of Covington on great development projects that will impact all of Northern Kentucky.”
Jim Parsons, local attorney and economic development expert, said, “I have known Tom West for years. He has great experience as an economic development professional and planner, along with the management skills to get things done. I am excited to hear he was chosen to lead Covington’s economic development efforts. You can expect great things from Tom.”
Most recently, West worked for the Thomas P. Miller & Associates, a national economic development consulting firm based in Indianapolis. While there he took an economic development role advising cities on the redevelopment of their downtown areas.
He also has his AICP certification, which gives him a foundation of planning he will need in the role as the City’s economic development director.
“West will bring a wealth of knowledge to the city that will help bring more economic opportunities to Covington. His experience and connections with the city and state will make him a great asset to the city team,” said Covington City Manager David Johnston.
