Smithhisler named KentuckyOne Health market leader, president of Saint Joseph Hospital

John Smithhisler has been named KentuckyOne Health market leader for Lexington and president of Saint Joseph Hospital.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 18, 2012) – KentuckyOne Health has named John Smithhisler as market leader for Lexington and president of Saint Joseph Hospital, effective July 23. He will have responsibility for the oversight of the Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph East.

Smithhisler comes to KentuckyOne from Health Care Consulting in Shrewsbury, Mass., and has served in a senior leadership role at several hospitals. Over the past year, he has been working with small- and medium-sized businesses to reduce healthcare costs and premiums by negotiating with insurance companies and health care providers.

From 2005 to 2011, Smithhisler was president/CEO of a 348-bed Catholic hospital based in Worcester, Mass. Saint Vincent Hospital, a teaching facility, saw continued growth of all major volume indicators, net revenues and earnings under his leadership. It received the Data Research Top 100 Value Hospitals Award, Harvard Pilgrim Health Plan Quality Award, Thomson Reuters Top 100 Teaching Hospital Award and Thomson Reuters 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals Award.

Prior to 2005, he was with Health Care Consulting for six years providing leadership as a president or CEO for healthcare facilities going through leadership transitions and also assisting in the development of short and long term business and strategic planning.
