Work on Wilson Downing bridge in Lexington to begin next summer

Wilson-Downing-bridge

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 27, 2017) – Work on the Wilson Downing bridge in Lexington is scheduled to begin next summer.

The bridge was partially closed May 2 after state inspectors found the original steel beam section of the bridge was heavily deteriorated. Due to safety concerns, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet required that the original section of the bridge be closed.

The partial closure reduced the bridge from two through lanes and one turn lane, to two through lanes. The partial closure of the bridge will continue until the reconstruction work is completed. The work will take three to four months.

Cost to repair the bridge is estimated at $350,000. Funds were provided through a federal grant.
