Adventure tourism: Climb, ride, paddle or watch boat racing during next two weekends

FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 25, 2012) — Any time is good time to check out a trail you’ve never traveled, paddle a river you’ve never seen, or catch a fish you’ve never caught. Every weekend there are dozens of fun and exciting opportunities to get together with other outdoor enthusiasts and spend some time doing something fun. Here are some great options for outdoor entertainment the next two weekends:

Check out these adventure tourism events:

— Whispering Woods Riding Stables in Georgetown is host to a free program called “Introduction to the Horse,” on July 28. This program is designed to introduce people to the world of equestrians. Great for children or anyone wanting to learn more about horses, this is a great way to experience a day of fun. Whispering Woods is located at 265 Wright Lane, Georgetown. Visit its website at www.whisperingwoodstrails.com.

— Another choice would be to travel to northern Kentucky and spend the day with EarthJoy Tree Climbing Adventures. Special rates will be offered to climbers the weekend of July 28-29. EarthJoy will be climbing at one of its favorite spots in A.J. Jolly Park in Alexandria. There is plenty to do at A.J. Jolly so bring the whole family and plan on making a full day out of the trip. To get signed up for this weekend’s climb, visit www.climbtreeswithearthjoy.com or call 859-635-0320.

The first weekend in August also offers adventure outings. As the temperatures soar, try some of these water-based events to help stay cool:

— Canoe by moonlight with the park naturalists from Natural Bridge State Resort Park. Discover the mysterious sounds of the night as you enjoy a paddle trip around Mill Creek Lake in Slade, Kentucky. There are several activities planned during the Aug. 4 float, including trying to call in a barred owl. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. To sign up, contact naturalist Tyler Morgan at [email protected] or call 1-800-325-1710. Visit www.parks.ky.gov to learn more about Natural Bridge State Resort Park.

— The Kentucky Drag Boat Association will host Drag Boat Races out of Pigsah Bay at Land Between the Lakes (LBL), the weekend of Aug. 4-5. LBL has plenty else to see and do during your visit, so plan on staying the weekend and camping under the stars. To learn more about the Kentucky Drag Boat Association, visit its website at www.kdba.net, and learn about all LBL. Check out www.lbl.org.
