Sierra Club lists UofL as one of top green schools

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Aug. 16, 2012) — The Sierra Club has ranked the University of Louisville among the 50 greenest schools in the nation.

UofL placed 48th in the club’s 2012 “Cool Schools” survey. It was the only Kentucky college or university to make the club’s list.

Schools took part in the survey by completing a website questionnaire in May about their sustainability practices. An independent researcher scored and ranked the 96 schools responding.

UofL formed a Sustainability Council in 2008 to improve the university’s commitment to preserving the environment. Since then, the university has earned a silver rating in the national Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) and has adopted a plan to reduce its carbon emissions to zero by 2050.
