Jury awards $11.4 million to plaintiffs in Bullitt County civil case

Largest jury verdict ever in Bullitt County history

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Aug. 22, 2012) — Jim and Debby Carter, residents of Bullitt County, and owners of Truck America Training, have struggled over a 40-acre tract of land for more than seven years over a 40-acre tract of land. In less than one hour, a Bullitt County jury ruled unanimously in the Carters’ favor.

Bullitt Circuit Judge Rodney Burress ruled in January that the city of Hillview breached its contract with Truck America Training over the proposed purchase of the land.

The $11.4 million award is believed to be the largest jury verdict ever awarded in Bullitt County history for a civil case.

The Stites & Harbison legal team of lead attorneys Andrew Beshear and Cassandra Wiemken represented the Carters and their business, Truck America.  The firm was assisted by local counsel J. Scott Wantland of Wantland Law.

“I’m thrilled about what this means for Jim, Debby, and their school,” Beshear said. “These people have lived through seven years of financial devastation, for which they may finally be compensated. Helping people like Jim and Debby is why I come to work each morning.”
