St. Catharine College has announced plans to offer a new program that will enable registered nurses to earn a bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN) in as little as 16 months. The program’s classes are eight-week courses that are offered on campus in the evenings; some courses will also be offered online, said Bob Wade, the college’s director of nursing. Wade said the decision to offer the RN-BS degree was made after surveying hospitals in a 50-mile radius from St. Catharine. Hospital administrators surveyed said they would more likely hire and/or promote nurses who have the BSN over those with associate degrees in nursing. The new program will be offered beginning this fall.
