Medicaid Waiver Forum to be hosted in Covington June 7

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 6, 2018) On July 1, Campbell County will become the first county in Kentucky that requires some Medicaid enrollees to participate in community engagement activities to keep their health care benefits.

Enrollees, health care professionals and others interested in learning more about community engagement are encouraged to attend a state-hosted Stakeholder Advisory Forum at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 7 at the Radisson Hotel Cincinnati Riverfront.

Community engagement activities include work, job training, education, caregiving, or volunteering. If a person who has substance use disorder has a requirement, rehabilitation treatment can also be sought to fulfill community engagement hours. The Medicaid 1115 Waiver was approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Jan. 12, and is now known as Kentucky HEALTH.

“Medicaid recipients who are able to work have an incredible opportunity to become more engaged in their communities and earn the skills they need to obtain one of the hundreds of thousands of jobs available in Kentucky right now,” said Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services Secretary Adam Meier. “However, community engagement is not simply a ‘work requirement.’ There are multiple ways people can participate, as well as learn new ways to engage in healthier lifestyles.”

Kentucky HEALTH PATH Community Engagement requirement will start in Campbell County on July 1, 2018. Boone County will start on Aug. 1, and Kenton County on Sept. 1. Remaining counties in the Northern Kentucky workforce development area will begin community engagement in October.
