HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (June 13, 2018) — Northern Kentucky University’s Center for Applied Informatics (CAI) has been named the 2018 National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE)/Chevron Award winner. The CAI will be honored at NACE Conference Awards Program in June.

The NACE/Chevron Award recognizes outstanding achievement for innovative programs in the college career services field. The CAI, housed in the College of Informatics, provides a high-impact virtual, professional and technical co-op program to undergraduate and graduate students.

“Through the CAI, students gain valuable experience working on cross-disciplinary teams for a variety of organizations, including large corporations, small startups, local governments, schools and nonprofits. Just as a data scientist uses an algorithm to sift thru meaningless data to see relevant patterns, so goes our program in providing projects to move from the abstract to the concrete. It’s a recipe for student success,” said Jill Henry, CAI executive director.

To select the winners, NACE reviews programs based on needs/objectives, content, design, creativity, innovation, measurable outcomes and ease of replication. As a 2018 Award recipient, CAI will be honored at the NACE Conference on June 7 in New Orleans and will be featured in the NACE publications in the fall.

“The CAI’s virtual co-op and apprenticeship programs are truly innovative programs that give our students real-world experience working on cutting-edge technology and media projects while earning their degrees,” said Kevin Kirby, dean of the College of Informatics. “We are incredibly proud to be named the 2018 NACE/Chevron Award recipient.”

In addition to the CAI, NKU’s College of Informatics also houses the Center for Information Security, hub for information security research and education.
