NEWPORT, Ky. (Aug. 2, 2018) — The Newport Southbank Bridge Company and EGC Construction will host an inaugural fundraising event for the Purple People Bridge on Sept. 2 that will allow event attendees to view up-close the Western & Southern/WEBN fireworks display on the Ohio River.
“Boom on the Bridge” presented by EGC Construction will be held on Sunday, Sept. 2, from 6-10:30 p.m. on the Kentucky side of the bridge. Tickets for the event, which is open to the public, cost $100 per person for adults and teenagers, $50 for children aged 3 to 12, and no charge for children under the age of 3. Tables for 12 can be reserved for $1,200 a table. Tickets can be purchased online at www.purplepeoplebridge.com/boomregistration.
Ticket purchases include beer and wine (two tickets per person for alcoholic beverages) as well as soft drinks and water; unlimited grill-out food; live music before and after the fireworks by Model Behavior, a high-energy cover band featuring music from the 80s, 90s and today; and a free parking pass for every two tickets purchased.
Attendees will be able to view the fireworks show while listening to the WEBN fireworks soundtrack on the southern end of the 146-year-old pedestrian-only bridge connecting Newport and Cincinnati.
“Boom on the Bridge is a special opportunity to experience up close and in person the Labor Day fireworks show on the Ohio River,” said Jack Moreland, president of the Newport Southbank Bridge Company and Southbank Partners. “Not only is this party the best seat on the river for watching the amazing pyrotechnics display but proceeds from your ticket also will help us paint and maintain this important local icon for years to come.”
Newport Southbank Bridge Company is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that operates and maintains the bridge. Moreland said that 75 percent of the cost of the ticket to the event is tax deductible.
The bridge company needs to raise more than $1 million to paint the bridge and all proceeds from the Boom on the Bridge event will go toward the capital campaign for that purpose, he said.
“We are extremely thankful that EGC Construction has agreed to be the presenting sponsor of this inaugural event,” Moreland said. “We still have supporting and table sponsorships available if other companies, organizations, or families are interested in supporting the bridge and our capital campaign.”
Supporting sponsors will get a table for 12 people, 12 extra drink tickets, and their logo placed on all event signs on the bridge in the days before, during, and a short time after the event. The cost of a supporting sponsorship is $2,500.

Because the central portion of the bridge will be used during the fireworks display, the main section of the bridge will close at 8 a.m. on Sept. 2. The bridge’s Pagan’s Path will close to the public at 2 p.m.
