Windstream expands 1-gigabit fiber internet to more than 11,000 business locations in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Windstream, a leading provider of advanced network communications and technology solutions, announced on Tuesday that Kinetic Business Fiber Internet services, with speeds up to one gig (gigabit per second), are now available to 11,229 commercial locations in Lexington with the opportunity to expand further to address the business needs of the market.

This surge of internet service speeds in Lexington is part of the first wave of one Gig Internet expansion nationally that represents an $8.5 million investment affecting nearly 100,000 businesses in 16 states.

Lexington is among the first markets served in this expansion. Windstream’s efforts help broaden the company’s penetration of fiber nationally from 2 percent of businesses in the coverage area to 24 percent. The rollout will be completed this year. For small and medium-sized businesses, fiber Internet connections allow Lexington-based businesses to enable more robust solutions such as next-generation network, cloud, voice and advanced security and business continuity plans.

“Lexington is the state’s second biggest city and home to the flagship university. Lexington set out to be a ‘Gig City’ and it’s going to be,” said Phillip McAbee, president of Windstream operations in Kentucky. “Bringing Kinetic Business fiber availability here, that’s something that was a must for us because we live and work here, too.”

The Kinetic Business suite of services includes high-speed internet, unified voice services and network security solutions for businesses. For more information, visit Windstream.com/business.
