MOREHEAD, Ky. — The Transition Center in Morehead State University’s Office of Enrollment Services has announced the addition of Tracy Counts, who will be serving as enrollment services counselor for regional campuses/transfer advisor for the Southeastern Kentucky area.
Counts will be based at Hazard Community and Technical College in the University Center of the Mountains. She will travel among the campuses of Big Sandy Community and Technical College, Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, Hazard Community and Technical College and Somerset Community College to assist transfer students with admissions, advising, and other student services.
She will meet with students, faculty and staff to inform them of the exciting opportunities available to transfer students at MSU such as regional campuses, online degree completer programs, joint admission and transfer scholarships.
“I am excited to provide a seamless transition for transfer students,” Counts said, adding her own experience as a transfer student gives her an understanding of the unique challenges facing those students. “It is so key to have a helping hand in the process. I am a first-generation college graduate and had to maneuver the transfer process on my own so having someone to help, guide and encourage is so important.”
Counts has lived in Hazard for over 25 years and has a long-standing history of serving students and families in that region. She has an extensive background in higher education and social work. She is actively involved in the Red Cross, is an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Hazard and is active on the Sunday Dinner Project (an outreach meal for the domestic violence shelter, the homeless shelter and street homeless in Hazard.)
She serves as a board member to the Appalachian Arts Alliance.
