LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 20, 2012) – Large crowds and competitive bidding on Wednesday drove double-digit increases in gross, average and median for the third consecutive session at Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale.
On Wednesday, Keeneland sold 302 horses for $8,228,000 an increase of 18.05 percent over 2011 when 315 horses brought $6,969,900. Average price for the day of $27,245 rose 23.13 percent from last year’s session average of $22,127. The median price of $20,000 was up 33.33 percent from the $15,000 posted in 2011. The reserved not attained rate (RNA) for horses not sold this session was a mere 9.58 percent compared to 13.7 percent last year.
On day nine of the 11-day sale, 2,145 yearlings have been sold for $214,039,000 for an average of $99,785 and a median of $55,000. Last year through ten sessions (includes two select sessions in 2011 versus one in 2012), 2,248 horses had been sold for $215,187,500, for an average of $95,724 and a median of $50,000. The average and median rose 4.24 percent and 10 percent, respectively
A colt by Yes It’s True topped the session, bringing $220,000 from James Kasparoff, agent. The colt is out of the Saint Ballado mare Wadena, a daughter of Busher Breeders’ Cup (G3) winner Ammy Hils. He was consigned by Bill Reightler, agent.
Juddmonte Farms paid the day’s second-highest price of $200,000 for a colt by First Defence out of stakes-placed Chanceisalady, by American Chance. Consigned by Equus Farm, agent, the colt is from the family of French champions Polish Precedent and Culture Vulture.
