LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Baptist Health has three of Kentucky’s top six hospitals according to the 2019-20 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings — Baptist Health Lexington and Baptist Health Louisville tied for third, and Baptist Health Paducah, sixth.
Baptist Health Louisville was also named no. 1 in Metro Louisville – the seventh time in eight years it has been either no. 1 or tied for no. 1. Both the Louisville and Lexington hospitals are listed as being “Recognized in the Bluegrass Region” which encompasses both cities. Baptist Health Paducah is listed as “Recognized in the Jackson Purchase.”
This is the first time for Baptist Health Paducah to be ranked in the Best Hospitals survey.
This is also only the second time that a Kentucky health system has had three hospitals recognized by U.S. News & World Report in the same year.
Rounding out this year’s list for Kentucky: University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital in the no. 1 spot and St. Elizabeth Edgewood/Covington in at no. 2. Norton Hospital was fifth.
The rankings, now in their 30th year, recognize hospitals that excel in caring for patients and are designed to assist patients and their doctors in identifying a hospital that best meets their needs. More than 4,500 medical centers nationwide were evaluated.

Baptist Health Lexington was judged as “high performing” in seven of nine adult procedures and conditions rated in the U.S. News report: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, COPD, colon cancer surgery, hip replacement, and lung cancer surgery.
Baptist Health Louisville also earned high performing ratings in seven areas: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, COPD and knee replacement.
Baptist Health Paducah was rated as high performing in aortic valve surgery, heart failure and COPD.
Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana – and Baptist Health-managed Hardin Memorial Health in Elizabethtown, Kentucky – each rated as high performing in heart failure and COPD.
Only 10% to 21% of hospitals nationally received a high performing rating in the selected adult conditions and procedures.

Objective measures such as risk-adjusted patient survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators were used to arrive at the rankings.
