Small Business Development Center helps new business in Pikeville

MOREHEAD, Ky. — Pike County residents have a new place to shop for clothing thanks to the help of Morehead State’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

Southern Prep offers name brand young boys’ and men’s clothing in a variety of styles and sizes. Owner Corey Copley has many years of experience in the men’s clothing retail industry. He decided to fill the need for a weekend leisurewear store for men in Pike and the surrounding counties by becoming an entrepreneur.

In February 2019, Copley first met with Michelle Spriggs of the MSU Small Business Development Center to discuss his business idea. He received assistance with implementing his business idea, business plan and projections. The Prestonsburg SBDC office serves Breathitt, Floyd, Johnson, Knott, Lee, Magoffin, Martin, Owsley, Pike and Wolfe counties.

“The SBDC was a valuable resource for me when developing my business plan and trying to figure out my financials for my business. It’s a wonderful free resource anyone wanting to open a business should use,” said Copley.

Southern Prep opened its doors in May. Business hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The business is at 4559 North Mayo Trail, Weddington Square Plaza, Pikeville. For more information, follow the store on Facebook at www.facebook.com/PikevilleSouthernPrep.
