Keeneland to hold Hiring Center and Job Fair in September to recruit seasonal workers ahead of fall meet

Keeneland Fall Meet 2018

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Keeneland is preparing for its 2019 fall meet, to be held Oct. 4-26, by conducting a Hiring Center and Job Fair in September to recruit more than 2,000 seasonal workers. Staffing offers a variety of opportunities, including Keeneland hospitality’s food and beverage services, parking and security, The Keeneland Shop, admissions, programs, track maintenance and guest services.

Seasonal employees are key members of the Keeneland team, and they travel from near and far to work at the historic track. During the Spring Meet in April, Keeneland staff represented 28 states, some as far away as Arizona, and 107 Kentucky cities.

“We are pleased to welcome many talented people to the Keeneland team through these seasonal opportunities,” Keeneland President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Thomason said. “Many of them return meet after meet and take particular pride in their roles. Keeneland’s average seasonal team member has been a part of at least six consecutive race meets, and more than 10 percent of our employees have 15 or more years of service. In fact, 55 team members have been with us 35 years or more – our longest-tenured seasonal employee has been part of the fun for 42 years.”

Among the seasonal jobs are a variety of positions with Keeneland hospitality, which provides food and beverage service for the entire Keeneland campus. Under the direction of Managing Director and Executive Chef Marc Therrien, Keeneland Hospitality serves the clubhouse, grandstand, concessions and track kitchen and is seeking people with experience in the restaurant industry, including sous chefs and servers, as well as staff to fill entry-level roles such as concession employees and dishwashers.

Other seasonal jobs at Keeneland are available in parking and security, The Keeneland Shop, admissions, programs, track maintenance and guest services.

Applicants with knowledge of handicapping thoroughbred racing are encouraged to apply to become BETologists and advance Keeneland’s fan education efforts.

Team members who work the entire Fall Meet average 40 paid hours each week and receive paid training prior to the start of the race meet. Seasonal employees are paid on a weekly basis and receive 50% off meals in Grandstand concessions, 30% off food at the Track Kitchen and a 30% discount on merchandise at The Keeneland Shop.

As an added bonus, seasonal employees have the potential to be eligible for full-time employment. In recent years, Keeneland has converted 35 seasonal employees to full-time status.

Keeneland will conduct on-site interviews for all positions at the Hiring Center, which opens Tuesday, Sept. 3, and the Job Fair on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The Hiring Center runs through Thursday, Sept. 26. Hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and Thursdays (2 p.m. to 6 p.m.). All times Eastern.

The Job Fair on Sept. 21 will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Hiring Center and the Job Fair both are located on the second floor of the Keeneland grandstand near the Keeneland Grill. Take Elevator B.

Current Keeneland employees whose friends are hired will be eligible for a refer-a-friend cash bonus.
