Baptist Health Floyd Hospital Medicine welcomes new hospitalist

Timothy Farley

NEW ALBANY, Ind. — Baptist Health Medical Group has announced the addition of hospitalist Timothy Farley, MD, who joined Baptist Health Medical Group Hospital Medicine this September. The hospitalist field is a relatively new specialty, having emerged only during this past decade.

The role of the hospitalist is to provide inpatient care so that primary care providers can focus on patient care in the office setting. They coordinate care for hospitalized patients, including scheduling consultations with specialists, prescribing medication, ordering and evaluating tests and interacting with the nursing staff. Though hospital-based, patients receive prompt attention during their hospital stay and have peace of mind knowing their attending physician is available around the clock and communicating with the patient’s primary care provider.

Dr. Farley provides comprehensive hospitalist care at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana and offers a holistic approach that encompasses the mind, body and spirit. He treats patients 18 and older, seeing patients from start to finish, if possible, or works to transition care to the next hospitalist on staff. All the while, the goal is to keep communication open between the patient, family and the patient’s primary care physician.

Dr. Farley earned a medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – New Jersey Medical School. He completed a surgery residency at Morristown Medical Center/Atlantic Health Systems in Morristown, New Jersey; a family medicine residency at Southern Colorado Family Medicine in Pueblo; and a pediatrics residency at Goryeb Children’s Hospital/Atlantic Health Systems in Morristown. Dr. Farley also holds a Master of Science in physiology and biophysics from Georgetown University, and has served on medical relief missions to Myanmar and Cambodia.
