Keeneland catalogs 4,549 horses for November Breeding Stock Sale

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Keeneland has cataloged 4,549 horses for the 2019 November Breeding Stock Sale, which will be held Nov. 6-17 and begin with an exclusive Book 1 featuring 275 graded stakes-winning fillies and mares and notable weanlings. Also cataloged to the sale are offerings connected to two Triple Crown winners: 23 broodmares in foal to 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, 22 weanlings by the stallion and 16 mares carrying the first offspring of 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify.

A total of 2,134 broodmares and broodmare prospects, 1,932 weanlings, 476 horses of racing age and seven stallions have been cataloged to the November Sale.

November Sale catalogs are available on Keeneland.com. Print catalogs will be mailed Oct. 11.

Highlighting the prestigious Book 1 catalog are such exceptional fillies and mares as:

  • Recent Natalma (G1) winner Abscond, who with the win secured a berth in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1). She is cataloged as a racing prospect.
  • Grade 1 winner Callback, in foal to Medaglia d’Oro.
  • Grade 1 winner Dame Dorothy, in foal to Uncle Mo.
  • Grade 1 winner Eskimo Kisses, carrying her first foal by Curlin.
  • Lil Indy, dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Maximum Security, in foal to Quality Road. Her weanling filly who is a full sister to Maximum Security also is cataloged.
  • Molly Corbin, a half-sister to European champion Peeping Fawn and French Group 1 winner Thewayyouare and from the family of Broodmares of the Year Better Than Honour and Best in Show, in foal to Justify.
  • Grade 1 winner and stakes producer Nereid, in foal to Quality Road.
  • Grade 1 winners Ollie’s Candy and Spiced Perfection, both cataloged as racing or broodmare prospects. Spiced Perfection is expected to make her next start in Keeneland’s Thoroughbred Club of America (G2) on Saturday.
  • Grade 1 winner Sailor’s Valentine, carrying her first foal by War Front.
  • Champion and multiple Grade 1 winner Take Charge Brandi, in foal to Justify.

Sales Schedule

Keeneland recently announced that the November Sale was moved back a day from its original schedule to allow buyers more time to travel to Central Kentucky from the Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Nov. 1-2 at Santa Anita in Southern California and inspect horses at the sale.

The November Sale covers 12 sessions as follows:

Book 1 (Wednesday, Nov. 6) – Begins at noon ET.

Books 2-6 (Thursday, Nov. 7-Sunday, Nov. 17) – Sessions begin at 10 a.m.

Sessions on Tuesday, Nov. 12, and Wednesday, Nov. 13, will feature horses of racing age from such leading consignors as ELiTE, Lane’s End, Paramount Sales, Taylor Made Sales Agency and WinStar Farm.

Keeneland will heighten the November Sale experience with an exclusive preview party for participating buyers and consignors. Buyers and sellers can expect other amenities and enhancements throughout the sales grounds and within the Sales Pavilion.

The entire November Sale will be streamed live at Keeneland.com.

Important sires represented by in-foal broodmares, weanlings

Broodmares cataloged to the November Sale are in foal to 202 exciting young stallions and successful established sires. They include the first mares in foal to 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify; champions Accelerate, Good Magic and West Coast; Preakness (G1) winner Cloud Computing and other Grade 1 winners Bolt d’Oro, City of Light, Collected, Mo Town, Mor Spirit and Oscar Performance.

Additional notable covering sires include American Pharoah, Arrogate, Bernardini, Candy Ride (ARG), Curlin, Empire Maker, Frosted, Ghostzapper, Gun Runner, Into Mischief, Kitten’s Joy, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, More Than Ready, Pioneerof the Nile, Quality Road, Runhappy, Speightstown, Tapit, Uncle Mo, Union Rags and War Front.

A total of 195 sires are represented by weanlings in the catalog. Stallions with their first weanlings in the November Sale include Horse of the Year Gun Runner, champions Arrogate and Classic Empire; Grade 1 winners Connect, Cupid, Keen Ice, Mastery and Practical Joke; Grade 2 winners Mohaymen, Unified and Upstart; and Grade 3 winner American Freedom.

Other sires of weanlings include such prominent stallions as American Pharoah, Bernardini, Candy Ride (ARG), Curlin, Empire Maker, Frosted, Ghostzapper, Into Mischief, Kitten’s Joy, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, More Than Ready, Nyquist, Pioneerof the Nile, Quality Road, Runhappy, Speightstown, Tapit, Uncle Mo, Union Rags and War Front.

November Sale graduates perform well in 2019

The November Sale has produced a number of 2019 stakes winners who were offered as weanlings and horses of racing age. Graduates include these Grade 1 winners through Sept. 30 who were weanlings at the sale: Abscond (Natalma), Bast (Del Mar Debutante), Concrete Rose (Belmont Oaks Invitational), Mr Melody (Takamatsunomiya Kinen in Japan) and Serengeti Empress (Kentucky Oaks); Grade 2 winners Bowies Hero (Eddie Read), Homerique (New York), Plus Que Parfait (UAE Derby Sponsored by Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group) and Selflessley (Miss Grillo) ; and Grade 3 winners Separationofpowers (Bed o’ Roses Invitational), Diamond Oops (Smile Sprint), Explode (Canadian Derby), Feedback (Forward Gal), Maxim Rate (Senorita) and New York Central (Maryland Sprint).

Successful horses of racing age from the November Sale include these 2019 graded stakes winners: Elysea’s World (IRE) (Santa Ana-G3); Next Shares (San Gabriel-G2), who is scheduled to make his next start at Keeneland in Saturday’s Shadwell Turf Mile (G1); Santa Monica (GB) (Sheepshead Bay-G3) and Starship Jubilee (Canadian Presented by the Japan Racing Association-G2).
