Owen County, Kentucky

The Kentucky American Water Company’s (KAWC) new Kentucky River water intake, treatment plant and pipeline will deliver up to 20 million gallons of treated water per day to central Kentucky. The construction cost for the project was initially estimated at $168 million for a larger regional plant but current estimates are around $162 million. Nick Rowe, president of KAWC (senior vice president American Water, Eastern Division) estimates the cost of water will be “less than a penny per gallon” when the new water source is fully operational. Contractors for the project include Reynolds, Inc. of Orleans, Ind., partnered with W. Rogers Company of Lexington to form Reynolds-Rogers, LLC; Garney Construction of Kansas City, Mo.; and PAE of Brooksville, Ohio.
